God enters a covenantal relationship with Abram; God makes promises to Abram. Yet, Abram is influenced by the voice of Sarai (his wife) and Sarai is influenced by the voice of the customs of the day. The result- Abram agrees with Sarai’s plan for an offspring – but their action is outside of God’s will. However, God’s plan cannot be derailed by human rebellion. God cleans up the mess left by Abram and Sarai.
